One of my favorite things about living in the Elkins area has to be Cass Railroad. Of equal interest to the trains at Cass is the area. Melanie had family that lived in the town of Spruce (now a ghost town). In its day, Spruce served as a home for many of the lumber jacks in the area. This summer Melanie and I had the opportunity to ride Shay #6 from Cass to Elkins – with a short layover in Old Spruce. Not much was left – just the foundation of an old Mill. Next Summer we hope to camp down in old Spruce. Should be lots of fun.
